Soundcloud has a special place in everyone’s heart, which is why there was some anxiety surrounding the recent SoundCloud disruption. Now, the plan behind SoundCloud’s saving has been revealed.
CEO Alex Ljung will be replaced by Kerry Trainor, former Vimeo CEO, and Michael Weissman has been named SoundCloud’s chief operating officer.
Both co-founders Ljung and Eric Wahlforss will remain with SoundCloud. Ljung will serve as chairman of SoundCloud’s board while Wahlforss will become chief product officer.
The question on everyone’s mind is how new CEO Kerry Trainor will handle the transition. Given, he has a stellar track record. After tripling Vimeo’s monthly users to 280 million, and increasing the number of paying subsrcibers to 710,000, Trainor seems apt to enhance SoundCloud’s analytical services.
Likewise, with SoundCloud’s Pro and Pro Unlimited subscription services, Trainor hopes to attract more subscribers by adding even more data and analytics processing for users.
In an interview with Billboard, Ljung stated:
All of this together – the capital, the capital partners – with Kerry and Mike joining our team – it puts our company in a really great position to stay strong and remain independent… We see a strong, independent future for the company.
We can only wish the same.
