At the end of last week SoundCloud announced a new update that will surely have our live DJs VERY excited. SoundCloud has synced their music catalog into several brands of DJ performance softwares, allowing DJs to access SoundCloud’s entire music library directly from their equipment. This marks the first time in history where DJs are able to stream and mix a music platform’s catalog without physical download or an external source.
SoundCloud has secured partnerships with DJ performance companies such as Native Instruments, Serato, Virtual DJ, Mixvibes, and Hercules. Software instruments distributed by these leading industry brands will have access to SoundCloud’s entire media library, and will be officially available for users in 2019.
DJ’s will be able to stream and mix this large music catalog only if they have SoundCloud Go. A SoundCloud Go subscription will allow DJs to perform with the cleanest sound available on the platform. With a premium account, performers are now able to access SoundCloud’s high quality content at AAC 256 kbps, making it much easier to avoid low quality sound caused by incorrect file formatting. Users can access this high quality streaming by enabling it within SoundCloud’s settings.
SoundCloud has announced how excited they are to please DJs with this update. “The DJ and electronic community is extremely important to SoundCloud… This community, particularly out of Europe, [was] the first to really embrace our platform.” says SoundCloud CEO Kerry Trainor. “SoundCloud is committed to empowering creators with the best tools and resources to grow their careers, which is why we are excited to partner with these leading companies to help DJs take their workflow to the next level… ”
