If you’re an independent musician looking to get your music on the radio, your best bet is to look LOCALLY. Discover the public broadcasts and the local college stations that are in your area and reach out to them! College radio these days has become more and more of a cornerstone to the underground and independent music scene. Many of these local stations are looking specifically to highlight and support the music that is coming directly out of their own community, so your music will likely be received with open arms! Here are a list of some smart ways to get connected with these local college stations and get them excited about sharing your music: - Email your favorite DJs from the Station and tell them about your music. - Physically mail merchandise, stickers and/or music to their station to get them onboard. - Try and book gigs on their campus, specifically those that the stations are supporting.

In addition to College Radio, Internet Radio stations have also become a huge wave in the music industry. With platforms such as iHeartRadio, Spreaker, Mixcloud and even TuneIn, anyone can start their own radio broadcast, and can even stream that broadcast live directly to an app on your cellphone. With these kinds of avenues available to you as artists, there’s really nothing stopping you from getting the kind of airplay you deserve. The independent broadcast community is built on a system of support, and many of these broadcasters are simply fans who’ve been waiting to hear exactly what you’ve been working on. Reach out to ‘em and share that new fire you’ve been holding on to, you’ll most likely be very pleasantly surprised!
